Infection Control
Infection control and universal precautions protect clients and staff alike. Everyone benefits from rigorous infection control you, your dentist, and the dental team.
Autoclave:
Instruments that can withstand high temperatures are sterilized in a distilled-water autoclave by using steam under pressure in an oven-like environment. This method of sterilization kills viruses and other microscopic organisms capable of causing diseases. Other instruments that cannot withstand the degree of heat are either disposable and thrown away or placed into a cold sterile solution.
Protective Barriers:
You will also notice that we use disposable barriers on surfaces such as light handles, headrest covers and water syringes. Your health is our concern!
Dr. Yen and our entire team follow procedures recommended by several federal agencies: the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). These measures include:
- Disinfectant hand soap
- Hand sanitizing stations
- Gloves and face masks
- Chemical disinfection of countertops and surfaces
- Sterilization of all equipment before every use
- Disposable materials
- Eye protection for patients
- Use of protective barriers
